Sweet Joplin

I still clearly remember the day my parents and I headed out to Marshall, VA to meet several miniature schnauzers. For my 16th birthday, my parents told me I could get a puppy–I was so excited! We had decided we were going to get a female dog. On the way out there, I remember asking a question–a bratty, I’m-too-cool-for-school kind of a question–on the way out there that we all kind of chuckle at now. “What if I don’t like her?? What if she’s not cute?” Well, it turned out that she was the cutest thing I had ever seen. She ended up coming home with us that weekend….and spending the next 14 years being a wonderful companion to my Mom, Dad, and I. Truly.
Joplin sadly started having health problems recently, and has quickly gone downhill. My parents found out a couple days ago that she has reached a point where she is in a lot of discomfort. Joplin is sadly being put to rest today.
I’ll never forget the way she used to nudge us with her snout if she wanted you to pet her…the way she always greeted us at the door….the way she would tap us with her paw if she wanted more belly rubs….the way she made this really cute pseudo growling/whining noise if she saw my parents outside talking to a neighbor, etc…the way she would snuggle right next to us (mostly my parents) when she slept…the way she ran around the house like a crazy person after she had a bath…the way she played like a puppy up until recently…the way she sort of “pranced” through the neighborhood with her ears flopping up and down…the way she used to lay on my Dad…the way she was right by my Mom’s side during the long recovery my Mom had after her accident…the way she brought so much joy and comfort to our lives…
We’ll miss you little Jop.
