It’s been busy in our household. All very exciting stuff, but Sam and I find ourselves wondering more and more where the time goes. So, while it’s a little late, I’ve been wanting to write a little something about Laina’s turning 2. We started writing down new developments, funny ways, etc each month of Laina’s life since she was about 1 year old.l..and could not neglect a very important milestone of her turning 2.
I know we are supposed to be entering the “terrible” phase, but I have to say there’s just nothing terrible about it. This is such a sweet age, with Laina saying “I love you, Mommy/Dadddy” and giving hugs and kisses very generously (we’ll see how long that lasts 🙂 I’ve said it once, I’ll probably say it again and again…but THIS is my favorite stage. It seems as though they are all my favorite stages I suppose. Over the last couple months though, it’s been so much fun to watch Laina become more and more of an individual. There are many layers to babydoll. She’s really quite funny…loves to laugh and make people laugh, be somewhat flirtatious with certain people, experiment with her voices/squeals. She finds hide and seek to be the greatest invention ever, and will outlast probably anybody with that game. The cutest part about it is that she “hides” out in the open where anyone can see her most of time…or if we can see all of her, she almost always fails to hide those little feet. She finds it hysterical though when we “find” her, and always want to “hide again!” Having fun is what’s it all about right now…whether she is playing with friends or her grandparents, going on a nature walk, helping Mommy and Daddy cook, etc.
There’s also the very focused and determined part of Laina’s personality that we continue to enjoy. She gets a very distinct look on her face…furrowed brow and all) when she is building a puzzle, trying figure out where she wants the Mr. “Tomato” Head pieces to go, helping us cook, etc.
Imagination!!! One of my favorite parts of the day is listening to Laina wind down in her bed before naptime. She typically has a few stuffed animals and books in there, so I get to listen to her talk to her little friends. We also witness really enjoy watching her draw on her chalkboard. She creates/requests certain scenes, and loves to draw fish and whales in particular.
We can’t forget to talk about food. Let’s just say that Laina thoroughly enjoys her dining experiences :). Most of the time at least. Sam and I are amazed at her love for veggies…broccoli, asparagus, brussels sprouts, zucchini, lima beans…the list goes on. There are very few foods that she doesn’t like, and she’s pretty enthusiastic about trying new foods, too. We certainly have our moments, but overall…she has quite a little palette!
Talking and singing. All day, every day :). Laina has a lot to say (and sing!), so there really aren’t too many periods of silence in our house. We love hearing what she has to say…and are graced with plenty of serenades each day.
