Our little preschooler

We had a very memorable day today with the start of Laina’s preschool. Sam was able to take the morning off so we could all experience this milestone together. We just chilled out in the morning and had a nice breakfast until it was time to head out. Laina was all decked out in her sweet little brown dress, and of course her purple shoes from Grammy and Granddad! She took her backpack and her “cubby” as Valley Drive has named the red bags given to each of the kids.
The car ride over to the school was relaxed, although I know Sam and I were both experiencing a whole host of emotions. We arrived just before 9 at the drop-off spot where the kids get to play with all the bikes, cars, etc…we gave Laina a hug and kiss, and she was on her way. We stuck around for just a few minutes to watch the kids play, and quickly realized the teachers advised us well when they recommended making it a quick goodbye. Sam and I headed into the church where her preschool is located, and joined other parents for snacks and conversation. Then we headed over to Laina’s classroom with some of the other parents so we could “spy” on the kids :). It was quite a scene to see all of us parents making sure our kids would survive without us…but somehow they managed! 🙂 Laina did’t shed a tear, and seemed to enjoy herself. After we got to observe for a while, Sam and I got to hang out at a coffee shop for a while. Such a nice moment…because we got to have some quiet time together, talk about meeting our new baby and watching our first baby grow up again right before our eyes.

A few of the things Laina shared with us throughout the course of the day were:

“The woman with the freckles poured me a cup of water. We had cheese, goldfish and grapes for snack.”

“Some of the kids were upset…but just a little bit.”

“We read a story about ducks. Debbie read to us.”

“I got a little upset because I wanted to leave the gate (that surrounds the playground). I didn’t cry, but I showed the teacher a different face and told her I wanted to go inside to have a snack.”

“I just liked going to to preschool” (when asked what her favorite part of the day was)

She also told us she wanted to go back on Thursday, and that she likes her teachers. A couple days before she started school, she asked us if Debbie and Beth (her teachers)were also Mommies. So cute.

Overall, the first day was a success!
