Sam and I went back and forth about whether to go somewhere during his week off before he started his new job, or to just stay in town and relax and do a few fun things with the kids. Sam was able to see clearly with this decision (as with most!)–we ended up staying around here and it was sooooo nice. Really. One of the nicest vacations we’ve had because it was so relaxing and the four of us were able to enjoy each other’s company for a whole week without any kind of rushing around.
Highlights of the staycation:
* The zoo! What a treat to be able to go during the week without a crowd.
* Mommy/daughter date. Laina and I had a lunch date at Cheestique just down the street. It was like I was sitting across from a friend because we just chatted the whole time. She did not get to have a pimento cheese sandwich b/c it was too spicy..she did, however, have “ooey gooey mac and cheese” which was delish!
*Daddy/daughter date. Who would have thought that this involved shopping?! Sam took Laina to get some new shoes. Of course they ended up at REI, and apparently Laina had a blast looking at everything.
*Great Waves Water Park. Laina’s first water slide and wave pool. E’s first time in a real pool.
*Del Ray Music Festival. Moonbounce, live music, a chance for Laina to play guitar, and lunch with friends.
* Lots of time at the playground. Can’t go wrong there!
* Morning in Old Town and Pirate Cruise Ship (although to be honest, this was pretty lame. I think Laina would agree.
* Being able to just hang out with each other…what a fun week!
