Catching up again. Last month, we went to Oxon Hill Farm in MD and had such a fun morning despite the rough start of the day. We were the first people to get there (bright and early at 8:00 a.m.!), so it felt kind of deserted, and it was still pretty cold. I got both kids out of the car and they looked at me like I was crazy. Luckily, they had a small store/kids activity room where we started until it warmed up a bit. We learned from the staff member inside that the planned activities for the kids (feeding the chickens and milking a cow) didn’t start until 11. I didn’t think we’d make it that long, but the kids ended up having a blast watching all of the animals, playing in the dirt and having a little snack in the barn. Before we knew it, it was time to feed the chickens. This was comical. Laina dove right in and reached in the bucket and sprinkled the grain all over the ground. Elijah on the other hand, had a different approach. He must have thought we handle chickens the same way we do our cats, because he continuously went up to as many chickens as he could trying to give them big bear hugs. He found it to be pretty funny and laughed every time he got close to hugging one. Luckily, the chickens were very used to this kind of interaction because they all handled it pretty well. After this, we headed to another barn to milk a cow. The kids took turns milking the cow after the guide talked to them for a while. Definitely a memorable experience for her!
