Elijah’s 6th

The days are long, but the years are short.  Yes, indeed.  I can’t believe it’s been a full year since I’ve sat down to write in our beloved blog.  I could go into all the reasons why we haven’t kept up with it, but instead I’ll just say that it’s nice to be back on here.  It’s in my nature to document life-both through photos and journal writing. I have to say, I’ve truly missed the writing aspect.

So here I am, and it’s the day after Elijah’s 6th birthday.  We were supposed to go to Indian Lake with some friends to celebrate a couple birthdays, but our little Austin has been sick.  I think (actually I know) the kids ended up feeling happy that we stayed home, so it all worked out.  Yesterday for E’s birthday, we had a nice family dinner (steak, roasted potatoes, and sauteed spinach per his request) and then opened gifts with Grammy and Granddad.  He also requested an ice cream with strawberries, blueberries, choc sauce and caramel sauce.  Oh, and M&Ms! He is definitely still our little foodie!  As always, he expressed his gratitude for all of his gifts.  “Yes!!!  You actually got me this?!  Thank you so much.  Thanks a lot!  Not the mean thanks a lot–thanks a lot like I love it!”  Some of the gifts he really wanted this year were a large wooden marble run, 2 remote control cars, and a rock/mineral collection.  Lucky boy!

This is what’s been going on with E:

  • Within the last few weeks, and he and Austin started sharing a room–they are mostly excited about their bunk bed (although we sometimes hear complaints that Austin is talking too much!)
  • He started Kindergarten!!!  Although the transition has worn him out a bit, he has been all about this new part of his life.  He loves walking to school with his friends (Cole held his hand the first day!), he loves letting his big sister walk him into school, and he definitely loves seeing all his friends throughout the day and then afterwards on the playground.
  • Some of his favorite foods are: Seafood soup from Los Tios, steak, seaweed, plums, cheese and onion enchiladas, Hawaiian pizza
  • He just loves when all the neighborhood kids ride their bikes together in the street!!!  It’s probably his favorite thing to do.
  • He still loves all things nature.  We all love watching him explore–whether it’s in our front yard collecting bugs or going to his favorite local park (Huntley Meadows!)
  • He really enjoys coloring. Especially his Insect coloring book and his Jurassic Park coloring book.
  • He LOVES Lemon.  He has nicknamed her “Yivvy.”  Nobody knows why, but it’s adorable.  He loves to snuggle with her, give her treats, and take her for short walks with Laina.
  • He’s awesome at dribbling and passing when he plays soccer.  This dude has some fancy footwork!
  • He generally loves life, likes to meet new people, and is always up for an adventure.

Elijah, Happy 6th Birthday to you.  What a joy it is to watch you grow.  We love you so, so much!! And you better love us–especially after braving Chuck E Cheese with you today!! 🙂
