Elijah!
There is no way to explain how kids change your life. Before we had kids, everyone gave us the same song and dance about how it changes everything but we were blissfully unaware. On top of that, what you realize once you have more than 1 child, is that all the ways you thought you’d changed by having your first kid flip upside down as soon as #2 (and #3) appears!
One example is our man Elijah. This guy is the sweetest kid you can imagine. At two, we already know he’s affectionate, adventurous, fiercely loyal to his family, and…well… likes to break the rules.
He loves to find out what he is not supposed to do so, as it appears, he can go straight away and do it! When we just had Laina, life was simpler. We would spend time thinking about how we’d approach certain rules, talk to her about ‘crossing the line’ and almost all the time stayed a step ahead of the game. So, to some degree this is sitll true with Elijah (if Laina is reading, I’m talking about your brother MiMi). However, what has changed so much about us as parents is we’ve somehow grown to appreciate watching our children break the rules. There is something interesting about watching what gets your kid excited and how they approach pushing their boundaries. Elijah plays this part beautifully. He’s such a sweet boy but if you whisper “don’t move the…”, he’s on his way over to move that thing and see what the outcome is. Definitely keeps us on the top of our game. Thank you MiMi for teaching us how to be flexible and be parents for a mischievous little boy. We love your curiousity, confidence, and courage which will serve you well as you grow in this world.
