Oh yeah and so do Sam, Casey, Laina, Elijah, and Austin…and Lemon

You just never know…

what the day holds. In the last month or so, there have been a few memorable moments that I’m just going to jot down so Laina can one day read this and hopefully laugh with us. So, about a month or so ago, Laina had a few nights where she just did not want to go to bed. We still have no idea why, but she was using some stalling techniques that she had never resorted to before, and she was making it very clear that she just didn’t think she needed to go to bed. Bedtime is usually a nice, relaxing experience for the three of us, but not these few days. One of the days however, was a bit more memorable (and traumatic!) than the others. After stalling up a storm and both Sam and I taking turns going into her room to figure out what was going on, we eventually just left the room and shut the door (as we normally do.) Oh wow Laina was mad. She started crying in that I’m-really-mad-at-Mommy-and-Daddy way. Maybe two minutes later, we heard a big thump. Ahhh yes, Laina decided she was going to make her point again that did not want to go to bed…this time by jumping out of her crib. We ran into her room, and she was lying on her back (seemingly just shocked by what she had just done.) Luckily she managed not to hurt herself…so we again attempted to go through the whole bedtime routine again and put her little butt to bed! This time it worked.
Another surprising moment was when I managed to lock myself out of our condo with Laina inside. Every parents nightmare. I stepped outside our door to place some recycling out in our hallway as I often do. Door shuts behind me, but it’s no big deal b/c the doorknob is always unlocked. Then I remember (as I’m jostling the locked doorknob and totally freaking out) that Sam changed the doorknob the previous night. So, I started explaining to Laina that I was locked out and needed her help. I heard her giggling a bit, but then she started listening and responding to what I was saying. After a few minutes of trying to unlock the door, she opened it saying, “Here you go.” Anything else you need from me, Mommy? πŸ˜‰
Last little anecdote. Laina loves to be naked. The other day, she spent about 2 hours just hanging around the house naked. Reading, playing with her kitchen, harassing Petey and Ellie, etc. We also spent quite a bit of time on the potty that morning. She was interested in sitting there for a while, so we just chatted and read books together. I figured, maybe she would want to go to the bathroom in her little potty?? Maybe?? When she wasn’t on her potty, I periodically asked her if she needed to go. Nope. At some point I walked into the living room to get some more books for us to read in her bedroom, and when I returned, she’s pointing her a big mound of poop saying “Mommy, what is that??”…knowing exactly what she had just done. So yes, you just never know what the day will bring. πŸ™‚
