days like these. When Laina and I decide to do something spontaneous, and it turns out to be one of those memorable moments that I will keep with me forever. We ended up being late for our usual Friday story time in Old Town, so instead we grabbed some bread to take down to the water to feed the ducks. We spent some time checking out all of the boats, and gradually made our way down to the spot where all the ducks & geese hang out. Apparently, others parents had the same idea on a pretty mild day, so Laina got to share the experience with other kids. Laina loved tossing the bread to all of the birds, and was especially excited about the finches and pigeons that would come right up to her looking for the bread. I think there were only a few minutes that she didn’t have a big smile on her face. She enjoyed narrating all of the activities that were going on all around her (planes and boats passing by, ducks dunking their heads in the water, birds flying by, etc) She also loved the fact that it was windy outside, and would hold her head up towards the sky and say “Brrrr….it’s so windy!” She liked to imitate the ducks and birds, too. Oh, and every time she sees a bird moving his head back and forth, she says “Look, he’s woodpeckering!!” She was very excited that other kids where there too, enjoying the whole experience..so she of course made a couple friends.
I love these moments with her…where I just get to sit back and watch her take it all in and just enjoy the simplest pleasures. It’s refreshing…and keeps everything in perspective.
Happy Thanksgiving sweet girl.
