We have a cow. Yes, a cow. A couple years ago, Sam surprised me again with his creative gift ideas. For my birthday, he gave me a card with a cow on the front of it, and inside explained that we would be sponsoring a cow (Heidi) at Poplar Springs. It’s a huge refuge for farm animals and rescued wildlife. We went once last year with Laina and got to meet Heidi and all of the other animals, so we decided it was time to go back again and make a visit. They actually had an open house the weekend before Laina’s birthday, so we figured that would be an ideal time to go. In addition to seeing all the animals, they had live music, good food, clowns, and various activities.
We unfortunately didn’t get to see Heidi, but we had a lot of fun hanging out with all the other animals. Laina especially took a liking to the pigs, and had no qualms about getting right up in the faces of these enormous animals. She even started hugging and kissing them after a while. She was also pretty fascinated by the clown, and was very excited to receive a balloon from her.
The three of us had a great time, and it was such a pretty fall day to spend outside. Very cool place to take kids.
