My Dad casually mentioned the idea that we should go to a cabin for a couple days to relax…so that’s what we did! Sam and the kids had 2 weeks off, so we thought it would be nice to do something a little adventurous while we didn’t have worry about schedules! On New Years day, we headed towards our little mountain house in WVA that had farm animals on the property. We took our time getting there, and took a break in downtown Strasburg to have brunch in quaint restaurant. When we arrived at the house, we were immediately greeted by goats and roosters. The kids loved them! We spent most of the day taking in the mountain views, hanging with the animals, and playing outside. We brought groceries to make lasagna for dinner, and after that we had some time for games and using the telescope to look at the night sky! The kids were pretty exhausted from playing outside all day, so bedtime was a breeze! Laina and Elijah shared a room, and Austin slept in his “big boy bed” (a mattress on the floor) in his own room.
The next day was a little different. Sam came out of the shower excitedly saying “Let’s take the kids to Bryce!” Without giving it too much thought, we hopped in our minivan and figured it would another fun little adventure. And it was. Until we realized the route we chose with directly up the mountain. The drive was pretty treacherous, and there were a few times I thought our van was not going to make it up all the way–but nevertheless we made it to the top! The kids literally did not utter a sound on the way up…I think they were a little nervous too. I (the driver!) was able to take a few breaths once we made it to the top, and I thought the way down would be much less stressful. And it was. Until we got a flat tire. I mean, really?? We managed to make it all the way down the mountain on our three functioning tires…and we eventually pulled into the parking lot of the resort and focused our attention to changing the tire. Once that was all over, we let the kids play in the snow and watch people skiing, etc…and we decided to head back to the house. We packed in a lot of fun on our little trip, but we were all ready to head back home that night. Lots of fun memories.
