Last weekend, we headed out to the Baha’i Center in Sterling with our friends to see an amazing performance by Kevin Locke. He is a Native American known throughout the world for his incredible hoop dancing. He is also a traditional storyteller and plays the flute. He believes in the unity of humankind, and uses the hoop dance dance to emphasize the roles that all of us have within the circles of life.
We really enjoyed the performance, and Laina was especially interested in the hoop dancing and the drums. It was a little tricky at times because Laina was pretty tired–so that always makes it more interesting ;). A few times, she tried to climb onto the stage. I’m not sure how Kevin Locke would have felt about that, but we weren’t about to find out! Our friend Melody was really sweet and watched Laina for a while so we could sit back and enjoy the performance. After the performance, Laina and her friend Sameh got to chase each other around in the parking lot. Sameh kept trying to give Laina hugs, but Laina didn’t want any parts of it that day!
